The Prime Minister says she is sure that “everything that can be done is being done.”

Jacinda Ardern has praised emergency teams dealing with the Nelson fire and says, “everything that can be done is being done.”

She told media that conditions are "dry as a bone."

“The rainfall has been low, the mayor described to me they haven’t had anything other than shallow rainfall since October so that is contributing to the conditions.

“It’s a massive undertaking, but they’re doing an incredible job.”

Ms Ardern told emergency teams that if they need any more resources they can be assured they will get it.

She says people who have been evacuated from their homes are very understanding of the situation.

The Prime Minister also warned that people with drones should leave the sky clear and let emergency services do their job.

“The message is simple, if you have a drone, putting it up into the sky right now is incredibly dangerous and inhabits the job that needs to be done.”

Investigators are assessing what started the fire, but emergency services say the focus is containment and management of the fire.
