Jacinda Ardern has been portrayed singing about euthanising elderly people to a Mary Poppins tune in the latest sketch from Spitting Image, after New Zealanders voted to legalise euthanasia in a referendum.
The satirical skit, which aired in the UK on November 7, shows the Prime Minister respond to an old man telling her he has arthritis in his knee.
“Well, we can’t have that,” the Ardern puppet says before bursting into song.
“For every joint that seems to ache, there is an option you can take,” it begins.
“A spot of euthanasia helps the elderly go down, a spot of euthanasia helps the health bill go down, in a cost-effective way.”
“Actually, my knee is fine,” the old’s man character says in reply.
“Best to be sure,” Ardern says as she attacks the man with a machete.
The PM has been the subject of a number of satirical skits on Spitting Image since October.
