The Government indicated today that a much-anticipated decision has been made about whether to re-enter the Pike River mine, eight years after the disaster that killed 29 men.
The Minister Responsible for Pike River Re-Entry, Andrew Little, will announce the decision at a breakfast event at Parliament tomorrow at 7.15am.
According to a release from Mr Little today, the Family Reference Group representing the majority of the victims' families -- which has been involved in the planning, along with the Governent's own technical experts -- will be represented at the announcement.
"It's quite a huge moment," Pike Family Reference Group Anna Osborne told Breakfast today.
Independent advisor Rob Fyfe will also attend.
The Pike River Recovery Agency handed over its final re-entry plan to the Government late last month.
The agency's been working alongside experts to establish the safest way into the tunnel of the West Coast mine.
The aim is to find remains of the 29 men who lost their lives eight years ago in the explosion, and to search for clues as to why it exploded.
