Firefighters battling huge scrub fire in the Far North

Firefighters are currently battling a huge scrub fire in the Far North.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson told 1 NEWS crews are responding to a 10 hectare scrub fire near SH10 in Kaingaroa.

Six fire engines are at the scene and two helicopters have been deployed to fight the uncontrolled blaze.

The spokesperson said the fire was heading inland. He said the area was hard to access on foot.

There are no reports of injuries or mention of any threats to properties.
