Fire breaks out near houses on Nelson hillside, helicopter attempts to douse the blaze

As fire crews battle the massive Tasman fire for a fourth day, a new fire has broke out in nearby Nelson.

The fire is now under control according to a post on the Tasman-Marlborough Fire Area Facebook page.

Footage provided by 1 NEWS shows a helicopter with a monsoon bucket trying to douse the blaze with thick smoke billows from the fire.

The fire is on a hillside with trees. Houses appear to be near the blaze.

Earlier Fire and Emergency said two aircraft and 10 appliances had been sent to this fire.
