If you're looking to spend the Easter long weekend outdoors is looks like you're in luck with sunshine forecast across much of the country.

Three frontal systems will affect New Zealand over the weekend which may make the air cold but the systems are set to lose their grunt as they move north, according to MetService.

The coming days are set to be "overall good, comfortable and pleasant easter weekend," MetService's Gerrit Keyser told 1NEWS.

Showers are expected in Northland and the Bay of Plenty today but it will be mostly dry across the rest of the country.

Sunday looks to be the best day over the Easter weekend, with dry weather forecast for almost the entire country.

Auckland is mostly dry all weekend besides a few showers potentially before dawn on Good Friday and light showers on Easter Sunday.

"There is no rain in the forecast for the three nights that Ed Sheeran is performing in Dunedin," says Mr Keyser.

"But on Saturday, there are showers around during the day for those travelling to the concert."

The Black Caps are also set to play in Christchurch where a brief period of rain is forecast for on the second day, but it should be dry for the remaining days.
