Death of man found at Auckland property still 'unexplained'

A large number of police officers gathered outside an address on Calgary Street in Sandringham, Auckland.

Police say they are still treating the death of a man found at a property in the Auckland suburb of Sandringham this morning as unexplained.

They've revealed this afternoon that the deceased is a man in his fifties.

Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe of Auckland City Police said police are working to ascertain what has taken place and investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, which is still being treated as unexplained at this stage.

The death has been referred to the coroner, he added.

A scene examination is continuing this afternoon at the property on Calgary Street.

Formal identification is yet to be completed and police are not in a position to name the man, Mr Pascoe said.

Earlier police said they were called to the property at 7.15am.

A large number of police were at the cordon outside the block of flats this morning.

Police said two men had been taken away from the scene, one of the a visitor who discovered the deceased.

Police want to hear from anyone who has information or witnessed suspicious activity in the area overnight.
