Centenary of Battle of Passchendaele to be remembered today

October 12, 2017

Nearly 850 NZ soldiers lost their lives in the WWI battle.

Today is the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele, one of New Zealand's darkest days where 846 Kiwi soldiers lost their lives in the World War I battle.

A national ceremony of remembrance will be held at Wellington's Pukeahu National War Memorial Park this afternoon, which will be streamed live by 1 NEWS NOW.

It will be followed by the unveiling of a memorial gifted by the Belgian government.
