'A car in our living room' - shocking 4am wake up leaves Auckland couple with pre-Christmas nightmare

The incident’s left the pair with a house that’s not really liveable, only weeks out from Christmas.

West Auckland resident Danielle Davies has been left with the mess and a house that's not really liveable only weeks before Christmas after a car stolen car struck her house in the early hours of the morning.

"Just sleeping, and then I heard a revving sound. And then a bang, and another huge smashing sound. And then suddenly there was a car in our living room at four in the morning," Ms Davies told TVNZ1's Seven Sharp.

A 15-year-old appeared in Waitakere Youth Court today facing a variety of charges, including car theft.

"Very shocking. Alarming. Just disbelief. No words to describe the shock of something like that happening."

Ms Davies' uncle, Gary Tennant said the car thumped the kerb, went airborne, and hit the grass, then the house, "and sat there with its engine roaring doing a big burnout on the reinforced concrete".

Ms Davies was mostly worried about her dog, Loki, who sleeps in the living room.

"My first thought was how far into the living room did they come? What's happened to the dog? What's happened to our stuff. Is it going to catch fire?"

She recalled the scene at 4am, saying: "There was just dust. There was smoke everywhere. It was bits of brick and plaster everywhere. And the car was still revving so that was scary as well. Is it going to catch fire?"

Ms Davies and her partner, whose father owns the house, face a big job to repair the house at a bad time.

"The aim is to try and make it so we can live here. But it's going to take a while. So close to Christmas, how are we going to find people to do up the house? Tradies are busy. It's a busy time of year. Everyone goes on leave as well. Who wants to stick around and fix up a house over Christmas?" Ms Davies said.
