'Better as a doorstop' - Breakfast's Daniel Faitaua talks utter contempt for Christmas cake

"Don’t’ get me started on the fruit" Daniel said, as he rattled off his list of complaints.

With just one week to go before Christmas, TVNZ's Breakfast is discussing one of the season's most divisive issues – Christmas cake - with Breakfast news presenter Daniel Faitaua saying the seasonal treat would be "better as a doorstop".

“I hate Christmas cake. I think it’s probably the most easiest cake to say that I hate,” he said.

"I just think it is overly sweet, it is dense and it's surprisingly heavy. And fruit – don't even get me started on that. I know that it's a Christmas cake, but I think it would be better as a doorstop.

"Not a fan."

Breakfast host Hayley Holt said she disliked the food as a child but learned to love it as she aged.

"I have, in the last few years, decided I like Christmas cake. I never did when I was young," she said.

"My tastebuds have matured."

Breakfast host Jack Tame responded, "You're right. I did have it with blue cheese relatively recently".
