Auckland is still the third-best city in the world when it comes to quality of life, a global survey has found.

The 2018 Mercer Quality of Life survey was updated this week, with the City of Sails in third place behind Vienna and Zurich.

Auckland has been third on the list for five years, and Wellington this year placed at number 15.

The survey measures factors like economy, environment, housing, medical, politcs, public services, transport and recreation.

Sydney was Australia's top-ranked city at 10, followed my Melbourne at 16.

Mercer NZ chief executive Martin Lewington told the NZ Herald that the rankings could help lure overseas talent to Auckland.

"NZ's natural environment and subtropical climate, stable political and social environment and good medical and health services are the top three contributing factors for Auckland retaining third spot in the global ranking," he said.

"With Auckland and Wellington's air and water quality being among the world's cleanest, compared to some other popular expat destinations, it means that NZ becomes more attractive for global talent."
