A maternity group in Auckland claims access to infant milk formula should be "prescription only".
The Waitemata District Health Board, which runs maternity unit at its North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals, is among the 18 DHBs that require a consent document to be signed before a baby is given formula.
The Maternity Services Consumer Council wants to take the practice one step further.
They are suggesting formula be treated like prescription drugs.
