Stan Walker has revealed his struggles with a strict diet change since undergoing stomach removal surgery in September last year.

The Kiwi musician had the life-changing procedure after being diagnosed with the rare cancer-causing gene CDH1, that runs in his family and has claimed the lives of 25 of his relatives.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Stan opened up about his new lifestyle post-surgery, as he continues to recover.

"I'm still figuring it out, to be honest, every thing's changed. I can't eat like I used to," Stan said.

The Kiwi singer said he wanted to "represent the people of the land, indigenous people around the world".

"I don't even know what the new normal is yet. It's still all new to me and I'm figuring out what works and what doesn't work."

The Little Black Box hitmaker admits he has had to throw old habits and old favourites out the window.

"It's a 24/7 job, I can't just get up and get a pie or go and get a sandwich or just have cereal - those kind of things are not normal for me anymore.

"I have to think about what I want to eat all the time and how it's going to affect me."

Despite the struggles Stan says has a positive outlook and is focused on what he hopes will be a bright future.

"Now I'm going to live my best life and I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that I'm living my dreams and not just sitting there and kind of just waiting for somebody else to tell me I can do this now".
