Melissa Stokes has been announced as the new weekend presenter for 1 NEWS at Six.
Stokes will start in the role in January 2019, taking over from Peter Williams who finishes with TVNZ at Christmas.
Melissa has a wealth of reporting and presenting experience under her belt. She has worked for TVNZ since 2001 across Breakfast, Midday, Tonight and 1 NEWS at Six, including a stint as Europe Correspondent from London.
"I'm very excited to have a new role with the news team I've spent so much of my life with. Being in New Zealanders' homes is not something we ever take for granted and I can't wait to join the talented 1 NEWS Weekend team," she says.
TVNZ’s Head of News and Current Affairs, John Gillespie says: "Melissa is an exceptional broadcaster, and it’s great to be able to confirm her as the 1 NEWS Weekend anchor for 2019.
"It’s such an important role for us and Melissa brings robust and strong journalism, as well as fantastic presenting skills to the job."
Melissa will be presenting 1 NEWS at Six on weeknights over the summer break and then into weekends from Saturday January 26, 2019.
