Fans of The Simpsons finally have a recipe for steamed hams in an online Aussie skit that has attracted the attention of a writer of the US animated TV series.

Steamed hams became prominent after a 1996 episode during which Simpsons character Principal Skinner tries to convince his boss that the hamburgers served for dinner are actually "steamed hams".

Hundreds of Simpsons fans pestered Australian supermarket chain Woolworths for a steamed ham recipe.

Woolworths today responded with a humorous cooking video on its Facebook page where it's had 127,000 views and well over 2000 likes.

The video was soon seen and tweeted out by Simpsons writer Bill Oakley.
