Want to watch TVNZ OnDemand but confused by all the different ways you can, and mystified about how to set yourself up? Let us guide you through the process for each of the main ways to view.

On iOS

What’s iOS I hear you cry? Essentially iOS is the operating system for all Apple-related products. So, if you’ve got an iPad or an iPhone you just need to go to the app store on your device. Then:

•    Search for TVNZ OnDemand

•    Click on TVNZ OnDemand icon. It will download to your device. Don’t worry it’s completely free!

•    If you’re aren’t already registered for TVNZ OnDemand – complete the very simple registration process when prompted and you’re ready to start watching heaps of great TV whenever you want!

But what if I want to watch on my TV?

No problem. All you need to do is purchase a Chromecast (other casting devices are available) for around $60-70, plug it in and follow the onscreen instructions for set-up.

You’ll then need to open TVNZ OnDemand and pick the show you want to watch. You should be able to see a little Cast icon in the top right of the screen. Simply press that icon, choose the Chromecast device you want to Cast to, and the icon will turn blue.

You can now get the TVNZ app on the Freeview SmartVU X which works like a Chromecast but allows you to use your regular TV as a Smart TV. You can also watch live broadcast TV without an aerial, simply by streaming it through your internet connection. Find out more about the SmartVU X

Look for the Cast icon - it's the far left icon on the right hand side

On Android

This is basically any mobile device that’s not Apple. So most other types of phone and tablet will fall into this category. We support the major Android phones on the market, however, because there are so many we cannot guarantee the TVNZ OnDemand app will work on all of them. Mainly because testing on all of them isn’t possible.

To get TVNZ on your Android device follow these three simple steps:

1.  Open up the Google Playstore on your device.

2.  Find 'TVNZ' through the search function.

3.  Tap on the TVNZ app, click the 'free' button and away you go.

To cast to a TV – follow the steps for watching on your TV from the iOS section above.

On desktop/laptop

Provided you’ve got a reasonably up-to-date web browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari etc) you should be able to just go straight to tvnz.co.nz, register and start watching.

Again, you can cast to your TV using a Chromecast.

Smart TVs

TVNZ has an Apple TV app available for 4th Generation and 4K Apple TV devices. Please make sure your device is running the latest software update.

If you do not have a TVNZ account, you'll need to register on another device first.

You can watch TVNZ OnDemand on 2012 - 2018 Samsung Smart TVs.

TVNZ is currently available on both the Playstation3 and Playstation4. The app is completely free and can be downloaded from the PS Store.

If you can't find the app, please make sure your region settings are correct, as only people in New Zealand can get TVNZ.

Panasonic (from 16 January 2019)
You'll need a Panasonic Smart TV manufactured in 2017 onwardswhich is in the ES/EX and FS/FX series. A quick Google search using your TV model number (located on the back of your TV) should help you identify this.

Sony (from March 2019)
