There's a double reason to celebrate with New Zealand’s favourite drama series Shortland Street this week.
For the first time in the show’s 28-year history, production was halted as New Zealand went into lockdown due to the advancing Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in reduced weekly episodes. Fans can now celebrate as Shortland Street returns to five nights a week on Monday 29th June at 7.00pm on TVNZ 2.
And there is another reason to celebrate with your favourite Ferndale residents, this week also sees New Zealand’s favourite drama hit another milestone with the 7000th episode screening on Friday 3rd July at 7.00pm.
Filmed under the strict health and safety restrictions when New Zealand moved to Alert Level 3 and production resumed, the 7000th episode was one of the first to be shot but a reduced production team.
With new and returning faces, romance, the occasional villain and the show’s usual surprising twists, Shortland Street will also continue the tradition of highlighting issues that affect New Zealanders this week in an emotional storyline surrounding the issue of Domestic Violence.

Frank and Sara are now trying to move on with their everyday lives despite the fact that Waldman, who survived the shooting at the end of season one, is still threatening their lives.
Frank can't seem to lose the feeling of guilt over the fact that he partially was responsible for Therese's suicide as a result of planting drugs in her bag, which lead to her arrest. Shockingly to him, his investigation seems to show that it might not have been suicide after all!
This forces Frank to seek Waldman's help and the two archenemies are forced to co-operate to find the murderer of Therese. Sara finds out that Therese's murder has something in common with the death of their parents and that all of it seems to lead to the depths of a rotten Danish law system.
