Shows You Might Have Missed: Life of Crime
Each week, we take a look at some of our favourite offbeat shows that might not have made it onto your radar.
Hayley Atwell stars as a tenacious and tireless policewoman whose obsession with capturing the murderer of a young girl comes to define her career, in the decades-spanning drama Life of Crime.
When an idealistic Denise Woods joins the Brixton police force in 1985, it is quickly made clear to her that she has entered a man’s world.
Combating sexism and harassment from her peers and facing condescension from her boss, she fears that she will not be able to make the difference in her community she hoped – so when her colleagues react with dispassion to the murder of a young girl, Denise makes it her mission to find the killer.
Little does she know that it is a battle she will fight for the next three decades.
Following Denise from 1985 to 1997 to 2013, this gripping three-part drama tells the story of one woman’s quest for justice – all the while pushing back against a sexist workplace that would rather she stuck to making the tea.
Starring Hayley Atwell (Captain America, Antman) alongside Richard Coyle (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Collection) and Julian Lewis Jones (Stella, Justice League), Life of Crime is a sprawling look at how times have changed – and how they haven’t – from the perspective of a policewoman doing everything she can to get one more violent man off the streets.
