Shows You Might Have Missed: Bleak House
Each week, we take a look at some of our favourite offbeat shows that might not have made it onto your radar.
Charles Dickens' classic novel is retold in haunting fashion in this stunning and star-studded BBC series.
Telling the story of Jarndyce versus Jarndyce, a legal battle in which Lady Dedlock, Mr Tulkinghorn, John Jarndyce and his two young wards Richard and Ada are all caught up, and which holds the potential to make one of them very wealthy, Bleak House is considered one of 19th Century author Charles Dickens' greatest works.
This faithful and respectful adaptation more than does justice to the classic novel – it brings it to life in all its haunting, harrowing and spine-tingling fashion.
Written by legendary screenwriter Andrew Davies (Pride and Prejudice, Les Misérables) and featuring an expansive, all-star cast including Gillian Anderson (The X Files, The Fall) as Lady Honoria Dedlock, Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as Mr. Tulkinghorn, Carey Mulligan (The Great Gatsby) as Ada Clare, Catherine Tate (The Catherine Tate Show) as Mrs. Chadband and Richard Griffiths (Pie in the Sky) as Mr. Bayham Badger, Bleak House is brimming with some of Britain's best and brightest talent.
Winning numerous awards and Best Drama Serial category at the British Academy Television Awards and praised by critics for its compelling execution and excellent performances, Bleak House is British literary drama at its very best.
