In 2001, BBC documentary The Blue Planet broke the mould.

Narrated by David Attenborough, the series was an in-depth exploration of the marine world, boasting visuals that were second to none.

Now, over fifteen years later Blue Planet II is here.

David Attenborough returns to the narrators chair, and this time he is accompanied by a score put together by none other than Hans Zimmer and Radiohead.

The combination of his voice, with such a powerful score over the top of awe-inspiring pictures got us emotional, no doubt you'll feel it too.

Blue Planet II is coming to TVNZ later this year, but for now you can check out the prequel.

The trailer features moving images that did not make the final cut in the series.
