There's not long to wait until Wentworth season 5 airs on TVNZ 2 and OnDemand.

But the big question that has been haunting Wentworth fans still remains unanswered....

Did Bea Smith survive that violent confrontation with the Freak?

(Warning - some spoilers ahead)

Could Bea have survived?

We never see Bea Smith put in an ambulance after that vicious showdown or have anyone pronounce her dead.

And it's entirely possible that Top Dog Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) could have survived - and potentially spend the rest of Wentworth season 5 in a coma off-screen after being taken to the facilities within Wentworth.

Just mull over that for a second - and we'll explain how it's possible.

If you re-watch the confrontation scene again (check out the shot above), there's a very real chance Bea could have known what she was doing after the Freak managed to get her weapon off her...

(You can watch the Wentworth season four finale online again on TVNZ OnDemand)

How is it possible?

Watch very carefully as Bea edges closer to the Freak, and pretty much guides her hand along with the screwdriver into her stomach.

It's entirely possible that Bea could have made sure the Freak stabbed her away from any vital organs.

Sure, there's a lot of blood pooling around her apparent lifeless body at the end of the episode, but it's also feasible that Bea could have been faking it to ensure the Freak spent the rest of her life in jail in Wentworth, and she could re-emerge triumphant at the end of Wentworth season 5....

But at what cost could that come?

Surely, Allie, who was last seen coming around from that apparently lethal overdose, would never forgive Bea for lying to her and causing her to grieve for her love.

And equally, maybe the rest of the inmates of Wentworth would never trust Bea Smith again...

Just take a second - you're thinking about it now and trying to consider the implications, right?

We'll just have to see what happens when Wentworth season 5 airs on TVNZ 2 and OnDemand.....
