Wentworth inmates Allie, Boomer, Kaz and Liz

Wentworth Season 6 premieres Tuesday 24 July at 8.30pm on TVNZ 2. Stream the previous seasons right here.

As usual, Season 5 ended in dramatic fashion, with lives hanging in the balance and a lot of unanswered questions.

So with Season 6 looming, we're taking a look at where we left off, and getting ready for another stint behind bars.

Last year’s final moments revealed that instead of escaping with Franky, Allie had let Joan “The Freak” take her place, and exit the prison undetected inside a crate.

That crate became a coffin, as The Freak was intercepted and buried alive by Corrections Officer Will Jackson. It was a twist that had us gasping, given Will’s honourable behaviour up until that point.

Meanwhile, Sonia’s life was also left uncertain, after a vengeful Liz dropped some pretty lethal drugs into her tea.

Franky fled the city hoping to clear her name, Jake Stewart was a broken man, and Vera Bennett still reigned supreme as Governor.

So what can we expect from the new instalment?

Some of the Season 6 cast has been confirmed, so we’re guaranteed to see more of our favourite penitentiary pals -  Franky, Liz, Allie, Boomer and Kaz

There’s also two new inmates set to be introduced – Ruby (Rarriwuy Hick) and Rita (Leah Purcell). Rita is said to be quiet and observant, whereas Ruby is cheekier, and it gets her into trouble. The new duo form an unlikely bond, but there could be something more sinister hiding behind their friendship.

We don’t know much about them yet, but if we know Wentworth, we know at least one of them will have a killer backstory...

Kaz is steeling herself to fill the Top Dog shoes once again. Boomer is at a loss without her bestie Franky, and Liz is living in fear that Sonya will wake up.

On the other side of the bars, Wentworth is under investigation following the double escape, so the pressure is on Vera. We just hope she doesn’t give in to the weak and grovelling Jake Stewart.

The police are hot on Franky’s tail, and the threat of Ferguson returning hangs over Will and all of the inmates.

There’s a lot at stake.

Get ready to go behind the walls of Wentworth one more time.
