Sterling K. Brown as Randall Pearson.

Sterling K. Brown has won the 2017 Emmy award for Best Lead Actor for his performance in the drama series, This Is Us

Brown plays Randall, the black adopted triplet of the otherwise white Pearson family. His journey of racial identity, and the quest to find his biological parents was a popular and heartfelt storyline.

The win was well-deserved, Brown's performance as Randall was convincing and riveting.

His Emmy acceptance speech was among the best of the night. He paid tribute to the category's previous winners, and his current co-stars.

"Milo, Mandy, Justin, Chrissy [Randall's on-screen family] - you are the best TV family that a brother has ever had."

When the orchestra tried to play him off the stage, Brown continued to be heard over the music. He made sure he thanked all the show's writers and directors too.

Gerald McRaney also picked up an award for Best Guest Actor, for his role as Dr. K in the show.
