Samuel Johnson – Played Evan Wylde

Since playing writer Evan in The Secret Life of Us, Johnson has appeared in several Australian TV shows including Underbelly and the police drama Rush

But his biggest role to date was playing music critic and journalist Molly Meldrum in the miniseries Molly in 2016. He won the AACTA Award for Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama and the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality in 2017 for his performance. 

He has also been an important figure in cancer research fundraising, joining forces with his sister Connie, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, to found the charity Love Your Sister. 

Since then he has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to cancer research support organisations and the performing arts and was named the 2018 Victorian Australia of the Year.

Sibylla Budd – Played Gabrielle Kovich

After leaving The Secret Life of Us in 2003, Budd went on to star in All Saints, Sea Patrol and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. But her biggest role came in 2013, when she was cast in the third season of Winners & Losers.

More recently Budd has starred in the TV series of Tomorrow, When the War Began in 2016 and the 2018 TV miniseries Picnic at Hanging Rock.

She is married to filmmaker Peter Carstairs and they have a son called Albie.

Claudia Karvan as Dr Alex Christensen

Claudia Karvan – Played Dr Alex Christensen

Karvan's first major TV role after The Secret Life of Us was in the critically-acclaimed Australian drama series Love My Way, which she also wrote and produced.

She then starred in the popular shows Puberty Blues, The Time of Our Lives and Jack Irish.

Karvan’s work in film was recognised in 2007 when she was then inducted to the Australian Film Walk of Fame. Her film credits include playing Sola Naberrie in the Star Wars franchise, the 2009 vampire thriller Daybreakers, and the 2011 film 33 Postcards.

Spencer McLaren – Played Richie Blake

In 2005, McLaren had a recurring role as backpacker Brett Owen on the British soap Family Affairs. He then appeared in episodes of Green Wing, McLeod’s Daughters and All Saints

He also played Daniel in the TV remake of Tomorrow, When the War Began alongside his The Secret Life of Us co-star Sibylla Budd. 

McLaren said ‘I do’ with his partner Chris Wright, in a commitment ceremony in 2014, 3 years before same-sex marriage was made legal in Australia.

Joel Edgerton as Will McGill

Joel Edgerton – Played Will McGill

Since appearing in the first 2 seasons of The Secret Life of Us, Edgerton has mostly left TV behind in favour of movies. 

His first big screen roles were the Australian films The Square and Animal Kingdom, and the US blockbusters Ned Kelly and King Arthur. He also appeared in the Star Wars franchise as the young Owen Lars.

Since then he has appeared in Warrior, Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby and Exodus: Gods and Kings. He also generated Oscar buzz in 2017 for his performance in the 2016 biographical romantic drama Loving. In 2018, he starred in Red Sparrow, Gringo, and Boy Erased, a film he adapted, directed and starred in which also featured fellow-Aussies Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe.

Dan Spielman – Played Dr Patrick Tidy

Immediately after The Secret Life of Us, Spielman guest starred in a few TV shows including the miniseries The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant and the TV drama Satisfaction.

In 2011, he landed the recurring role of Andrew Holland on Offspring and he has been busy ever since. His biggest roles to date are the starring in the miniseries Deep Water and playing Tim in the comedy drama Sisters.

Deborah Mailman as Kelly Lewis

Deborah Mailman – Played Kelly Lewis

Mailman is now one of Australia’s most popular and prolific actresses. After The Secret Life of Us, she starred in the Australian drama film Rabbit-Proof Fence

Her next big role was playing Cherie Butterfield on the long-running family dramedy Offspring, followed by roles in Tomorrow, When The War Began, Cleverman, Jack Irish, and the new crime thriller Bite Club.

Mailman has won several acting accolades, including Best Supporting TV Actress for Offspring and Best Leading Movie Actress for The Sapphires at the AACTA Awards and Most Outstanding Actress for Redfern Now: Promise Me at the 2016 Logies. 

Ben Mendelsohn – Played Rob

He was only in 5 episodes of season 4, but after The Secret Life of Us, Mendelsohn’s career has gone from strength to strength.

His first TV role was in co-star Claudia Karvan’s TV drama Love My Way. After that he appeared in the films Australia, The Dark Knight Rises and The Place Beyond the Pines. In 2015 he landed the role of Danny Rayburn in the drama series Bloodline, for which he won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. 

His latest movie roles include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Darkest Hour, Ready Player One and the upcoming superhero film Captain Marvel.
