The Orville is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series, set 400 years in the future.

The plot follows The U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the problems of everyday life.

Emmy Award winner Seth MacFarlane (of Family Guy fame), created, produced, and stars in the show. 

MacFarlane plays the ship's captain, Ed Mercer. 

Adrianne Palicki (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) plays Ed's ex-wife, and First Officer.

Additional cast members include Penny Johnson Jerald (24), Scott Grimes (American Dad!), Peter Macon (Shameless), Halston Sage (Neighbors), J Lee (The Cleveland Show), and Chad L. Coleman (The Walking Dead).

In the series’ opening episode, it’s 2417. The Planetary Union has promoted Ed to Captain. His enthusiasm for the new position is dampened by the presence of hids ex-wife.

While on their first routine mission, the Orville crew is ambushed by a vicious alien race. The battle begins, for a device that can cause time to accelerate.
