Arie at the Final Rose ceremony.

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains details from The Bachelor Season 22 finale, stream the latest episodes here.

Arie Luyendyk Jr. has shocked fans everywhere, in what can only be described as a major breach of Bachelor etiquette.

In last night’s season finale, Arie proposed to one bachelorette, then promptly dumped her for the other, claiming he had to "follow his heart."

Becca won Arie’s affections early in the season, joining him for the first one-on-one date.

Lauren however, was something of a dark horse, quiet and shy compared to Becca’s obvious confidence.

On their final dates in Peru, Arie told both women that he loved them. A cruel decision, making them both believe they had the final rose in the bag.

So when Arie chose Becca, Lauren was understandably distraught. “I’m extremely confused,” she told him through her tears.

Later, Lauren said, “I really think he made a mistake.” Turns out he actually did .

Arie and Becca, moments after their proposal.

Instead of the uplifting music and fairy tale montage that usually follows a Bachelor proposal, we cut to Arie, confessing to the camera… “I go to bed and I think about Lauren, I wake up and I think about Lauren.”

What came next was one of reality TV’s most heart-shattering break ups. EVER.

A cheery Becca arrived for what she thought was a “happy couple getaway” with Arie, only to be shocked and humiliated by him moments later.

He told her that he wants to explore the possibility of a relationship with Lauren. Her response… “Are you f**king kidding me?”

For an excrucaiting 30 minutes, Becca tried to escape the cameras, while Arie hovered like a puppy who's been locked out.

There’s been zero communication between Becca and Arie since their brutal onscreen goodbye. However, she told People magazine that she had her suspicions, when she noticed Arie liking Lauren’s Instagram photos.

Nobody knows whether Arie and Lauren are actually together now.

Unsurprisingly, Arie’s behaviour  was ill-received by the Bachelor nation, and Becca is first in line to be the next Bachelorette
