Harata Brown joined Te Karere in 2016 as the programme’s planning producer after a four year stint working as a general news reporter and presenter for Māori Television's Te Kaea news service.
Her first introduction to Māori news was when Te Hiku Media in Kaitaia launched their television station in 2006. At 16 she became their first Māori newsreader.
After putting study on hold, she moved back to the Far North to work fulltime in iwi radio as Northland’s regional Māori news correspondent between 2009 and 2012.
She’s worked at Radio Waatea as a reo Māori current affairs host and Te Wānanga o Aotearoa as a Te Ara Reo Māori teacher.
Harata holds a Diploma of Film and Television Production, a Bachelor of Arts (Māori Development) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business (Māori Development).
