Sianne Dougherty (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāi Tahu) is no stranger to Te Karere viewers. Her rendition of Maisey Rika and Tama Waipara’s song Haumanu on the show went viral, amassing tens of thousands of likes and over 3,500 shares.

Sianne doesn’t have to look too far for inspiration when composing songs. Her song Azalia is named after her young daughter.

“It’s about her growing and how she is a beautiful flower, and how she has grown into a beautiful little person that I love and enjoy.”

Looking ahead to the New Year, Dougherty will be playing a number of events and festivals including East Coast Vibes, One Love and Home Grown. She also hopes to release her EP.

“It’s going to be huge for me,” she says, “I am going to be little bit nervous. Hopefully I am geared up for it - this is what learning is all about.”
