Our men' and women's rugby sevens’ teams for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games have just been named.

The 26 players were announced at Mt Maunganui today with the high expectations that both teams will each win a medal.

The men's team have won four gold medals.

Portia Woodman says the women's team are excited to make their debut at their first Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

“He kōtiro nō Kaikohe e purei ana i te whutupōro.

While some of the players have done this all before, there are still a lot of newbies to this level of competition.

Stacey Waaka and Ngarohi McGarvey-Black are two of them and both hail from Ruatoki.

McGarvey-Black has competed in two competitions and says he is happy to be on the team.

Both teams are in preparation and kick-off starts April 14.
