TVNZ is airing a new programme that takes the viewer on a voyage of discovery by paddling and sailing the waterways of NZ and meeting people who are passionate about waka and their traditions.

Alby Waititi's new show Waka Man goes on a voyage of discovery, paddling and sailing the waterways of Aotearoa meeting people who are passionate about waka and their traditions.

Waititi has lived in Australia for 18 years. He's a veteran at Chinese Dragon Boating which has taken him around the world but last year he almost walked away from it.

He says this Waka Man experience is one he will never forget. It is an experience that inspired him to respond to the call of home.

“Home was calling me and it’s not just the revitalisation of waka traditions, but the revitalisation of te reo Māori as well and how important it is for me to embrace that part of me.”

There are a total of 10 episodes that will go to air and the first episode will go to air this Sunday at 8:30 am on TVNZ1.
