Three strikes law strikes out
A proposal to repeal the three strikes law won't go ahead.
The three stage system increases consequences for repeat serious violent offenders, whereby, if on the third strike, the sentence must be the maximum penalty unless the court rules otherwise.
Justice Minister Andrew Little had planned to take a proposal to cabinet yesterday to axe the law, but New Zealand First has ditched the idea completely.
Work on a criminal justice reform package is set to be progressed in August.
