Te Ururoa Flavell formally welcomed into new CEO position
Te Ururoa Flavell the former Minister of Māori Development was formally welcomed yesterday as the new CEO of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.
Te Wānanga o Aotearoa's head campus in Te Awamutu was packed with people from all iwi and waka to install Flavell into his new position at the institution.
Poutikanga of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa Paraone Gloyne says they have big plans for him.
“E mōhio ana mātou he nui ōna pukenga i roto i te ao mātauranga. He mōhio te kupenga tangata i roto i te ao Māori, te kupenga tangata hoki i roto i ngā tari kāwanatanga. Nō reira kei reira katoa o mātou whakaaro e haere ana.”
During the pōwhiri, many mentioned the skills he brings to the table.
Gloyne also says they're excited to receive their new CEO and see what he has to offer as they understand it's not an easy office to hold.
“He tūranga nui tēnei. Kō atu i te 1500 ngā ringaringa, ngā waewae kaimahi nei i roto i te kaupapa. Kō atu i te 30,000 tauira. Ko ā mātou whare ako, mai Kaitaia tat atu ki Murihiku ki roto i Te Waipounamu.”
Flavell says he hopes to lift and strengthen the wānanga.
“Ko te tūmanako ia ka piki ki taumata kē ki runga ake. Nā ka whakapakari ake ngā ngoikoretanga o te wā. Engari, kia whakapakari anō hoki ngā papainga o roto i Tē Wānanga o Aotearoa.”
He will start in his role today.
