Taranaki kaumātua Ngapari Nui has completed a gruelling 255-kilometre cycle challenge to raise money for the Cancer Society.

After an early morning karakia to clear his way, Ngapari Nui left Pātea at 5 am on Tuesday. He stopped off at Ōtaki before arriving in Wellington.

“From Waikanae, to actually get into Pōneke was you know the wind. You know, a bit of rain, but the wind was the worst.”

While Nui is to raising money for the Cancer Society, his mission is also a tribute to Rangipuano Kershaw who lost his long battle with cancer in January at the age of 26.
