Surfing nationals going down in Gisborne
By Te Karere
It’s the second day of the Surfing Nationals in Gisborne has kicked off with perfect conditions.
New Zealand's top surfer Ricardo Christie of Ngāti Kahungunu, ranked 31st in the world, believes the cream of the crop has arrived in Gisborne and the future is looking bright.
He says, “Surfing in NZ has always been high, to an international standard. We have Maz Quinn who has been on tour and won international events and Billy Stairmand. There are lots of great surfers and I’m enjoying competing against them at home on home soil and get ready for the year.”
The event will take place for the rest of the week.
