Te Papaiouru Marae was packed with mourners yesterday to farewell a much loved and respected woman, Talei Morrison.

The 42-year-old died of cancer last week but left an indelible mark in education, Māori performing arts, and health awareness.

She was an expert in kapa haka so it was fitting that her team, Te Mātārae I Ōrehu gave her a final send-off.

She was an accomplished educator as well; however, it was her campaign, Smear Your Mea that made her nationally famous.

It was her wish that no more Māori women be affected by this disease.

She leaves behind her partner and three children.
