Queensland suffer blow in lead up to State of Origin opener
Queensland has suffered a major blow a day out from their State of Origin series opener with veteran Billy Slater ruled out with an injury.
Just hours after he was declared fit to play; the fullback pulled himself out of today's clash in Melbourne against New South Wales.
In what is his final origin series, Slater said he didn't want to take the risk with the hamstring injury ahead of game one.
Newcastle's Kalyn Ponga has been flown in as cover.
