The Prime Minister has announced New Zealand will make an additional large donation to Tonga to help with the re-build following Cyclone Gita.

Jacinda Ardern arrived in Tonga this morning as part of her week-long tour of the Pacific.

Ardern met with Tonga Prime Minister 'Akilisi Pōhiva and the two exchanged gifts, strengthening ties between our two peoples.

"We are here today to offer to the government an additional $7 million specifically for recovery in the wake of Gita."

The PM is still yet to visit Rarotonga.
