A crowd of conservationists, kids and politicians were at Totara Park in South Auckland yesterday planting trees.

The projects began in July last year with all the saplings propagated and raised by the Auckland prison nursery,

Associate Minister of Forestry Meka Whaitiri says it also falls in line with the government and the Ministry of Forestry's ultimate goal.

There are more tree planting events planned over the coming month to mark the rise of Matariki.
