Ngāti Maniapoto descendant wins Breakfast’s Best Job Ever competition
Next week, TVNZ's Breakfast program will have a new face on the programme.
His name is Kalani Flavell and he's of Ngāti Maniapoto / Hawaiian descent.
Flavell is just 10 years old; he won the all-expenses-paid gig to the Gold Coast and headed off hundreds of other hopefuls in the process.
“I'm feeling extremely excited because I'm going to have a camera in my face at my face almost every day.”
Over 300 children put video entries in but, according to Matty Mclean, what got Flavell the winning points was his use of family and dancing in his video.
Kalani's mother, Cody Flavell is a dancer and of Hawaiian descent was full of pride.
“He definitely proved to me that he had confidence and really enjoyed actually making the video. So I was very super proud.”
It will be the first family trip together to Australia but Flavell says he’s ready to tackle Matty Mclean's job.
“It's probably going to be nerve racking with a giant camera in front of my face so hopefully he (Matty) makes me feel good and gives me tips.”
Flavell's family head to GC this Sunday and his first report for Breakfast will be on Monday.
