New figures show teacher training enrolments have dropped
New figures show under the previous National government, enrolments in teacher training dropped by forty percent.
Between 2010 and 2016 the number of people studying to enter the profession dropped by almost 6000.
The largest drop was in early childhood education with the number of trainees falling by more than three thousand.
Prior to 2010, the number of trainees in all areas of teaching was growing.
Education Minister, Chris Hipkins claims the government has already got the ball rolling to make the teaching profession more attractive.
