MP claims systematic racism in NZ Police
Marama Davidson claims there is 'systematic racism' with NZ Police.
The Greens co-leader published her opinions on social media citing her brother's numerous experiences of racially profiling by police.
She says her 42-year-old brother still gets pulled over for 'random checks'.
"My brother gets stopped for going on a run simply because he's running while brown. Māori, Pacific and brown people of colour have also seen that same systematic racism every day and stats and evidence support this."
NZ Police wasn't available for an on-camera interview, but they say that allegations of racism do not reflect who we are as an organisation or the service that the men and women of NZ Police deliver every day to keep New Zealanders safe.
Davidson will meet with NZ Police Commissioner Mike Bush next week to discuss strategies in the hope to crack down the issue of racism.
