Māori actor, singer and television host Maaka Pohatu has landed a leading role in the new local mockumentary series - Wellington Paranormal.

He is one of the founding members of the modern Māori quartet a television host, a singer and also a talented actor.

The television series is a spin-off of the movie; What We Do in the Shadows, the brainchild of legendary filmmakers' Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement.

Maaka says the audience can expect a lot of impromptu speech.

"It's definitely a lot of fun when you're giving that much permission as an actor to go just keep going."

The show launches tonight on TVNZ 2.
