Māori leaders file treaty claim over partnership school axing
The government is facing legal action with Māori leaders filing a Treaty of Waitangi claim over the axing partnership (charter) schools.
Sir Toby Curtis and Dame Iritana Tawhiwhirangi are leading the action believing the axing of the partnership schools will have a profound detrimental impact on Māori students.
Sir Toby says most of 1500 students enrolled in partnership schools are Māori.
At this stage, Education Minister Chris Hipkins has approved just one charter school to convert to a state school.
