Jess Tyson can now add Miss World New Zealand to her credentials.

The beauty queen of Te Ātihaunui a Pāpārangi descent is heading to China at the end of this year to represent Aotearoa after she was crowned over the weekend.

“Kei te tino harikoa ahau nā te mea i toa i te whakataetae ātaahua o Miss World Aotearoa. Kei te tino harikoa.”

It’s been a long road for the 25-year-old. She’s been competing in pageants for the past ten years.

“He haerenga tino uaua, he tekau mā rima ōku tau i tīmata i te ao whakataetae ātaahua.”

Now she’s already preparing to represent overseas, planning her cultural performance to compete in the Miss World pageant.

“Ko taku tino wawata, kei te pīrangi ahau ki te tū hei mahi poi ki Haina mō Miss World. He maha ngā mahi uaua i mua i ahau engari he wahine tino pukumahi ahau.”

The Māori Television presenter also has a long-term goal in mind.

“Ko taku tino wawata, kei te pirangi ahau ki te tū hei māngai mō ngā rangatahi katoa mō Aotearoa.”
