Māori artists feature heavily at APRA Silver Scroll Awards
Māori artists featured prominently at this year’s APRA Silver Scroll Awards and were represented in most categories.
The 2018 Silver Scroll Awards was awarded to Marlon Williams of Ngāi Tai & Kai Tahu for his single 'Nobody Ever Gets What They Want Anymore.'
But there's no rest for the wicked as straight afterwards Williams flew to Melbourne to kick-start his tour and says it’s time to reconvene.
“Back to the drawing board as always, there's no end goal in songwriting. What have I done wrong is the best thing you ask yourself what I can do better?”
Ria Hall, Tiki Taane and Te Ori Paki took out the Maioha Award for their song ‘Te Ahi Kai Pō’.
The song was performed on the night by Teeks and Te Kapa o Ngā Tūmanako.
Hall says now she’s preparing and getting ready to hit the road on tour with Rob Ruha.
“Ka huri te kei o tēnei waka ki tērā o ngā kaupapa ki tō māua ko Rob haerenga puta noa i te motu hei te marama te heke mai nei.
“Nā reira, āe, engari i tēnei wā tonu hīkaka ana te ngākau.”
It was a successful night for our Māori musos.
