The youngest primate of the Anglican Communion has been appointed.

At 45 years of age, the Right Reverend Don Tamihere is the newest leader of the Māori Anglican Church.

Archbishop Tamihere of Ngāti Porou descent succeeds the late Archbishop Brown Turei as the Regional Bishop of Te Tairāwhiti, the leader of Te Pihopatanga and Māori co-leader of the tri-tikanga church.

A date and venue for his installation as Te Pihopa o Aotearoa is yet to be announced.
