The number of homes destroyed by the eruption of Hawaii's Mt Kilauea has climbed to at least 26. Around 2000 people have been evacuated and it seems they may not be returning anytime soon.

The mountain has been spewing lava, steam and gas since Thursday. Kilauea has been continuously erupting since 1983 and is one of the world's most active volcanoes. Nearly 30 years ago, lava slowly covered an entire town, Kalapana, over the period of a year.
