Helicopters at work to stop fire
By Te Karere The fire has been burning on the slopes at the western side of Lake Wanaka since yesterday afternoon.
It was estimated that about 160 hectares had been burnt by dark.
Helicopters have been working since daybreak to stop a fire at Wanaka's Mt Roy.
While fire crews prepared to evacuate about 30 homes and residents at a nearby holiday park overnight, by 4:30am conditions had changed and the fire had stopped burning in the direction of houses.
