To address homelessness in Auckland, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development Phil Twyford has revealed plans to conquer the issue.

The plan includes building new apartments with onsite health and support services for those less fortunate.

An old building at 139 Greys Avenue in the CBD demolished with its 80 apartments to be replaced with a new building fitted with 280 apartments.

The building is not set to open until 2021, despite Twyford's promise that no one would need to live in their car or sleep rough this winter.
