Peta Hiku was born and raised in Gisborne and dreamed of meeting Stacey Jones and Reuben Wiki.

Now, the Ngā Ariki descendant is part of the new look Warriors ready to make 2018 their year.

"Growing up I was more excited trying to meet someone that's where I am now, let alone be here."

Peta Hiku was born in Gisborne; it was there the dream of playing for the Warriors was born.

“Being in Gizzy, not much rugby players or anything there. I just thought it'll be quite a tough opportunity to be able to make it somewhere in rugby.”

Some twenty odd years later, the dream has become a reality.

“I moved out of Gisborne into Auckland and opportunities just became a little bit easier.”

He did have a short stint at for the junior club and then moved to Australia, it was there he tasted the fruits of success.

“I went over to Manly and enjoyed my time there just with all the senior players and the kind of group they had there was such a successful group. Going over there was no pressure going into playing NRL.”

But now Hiku is back at his favourite club, under the guidance of Stephen Kearney and alongside some of his favourite players.

The Warriors play the Rabbitohs in Perth next week.
